Why this site exists
Most online time-to-decimal calculators give you the basic math — 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75 — and stop there. That works for homework. It doesn’t work for payroll.
Real payroll teams need to handle the FLSA 7-minute rule, decide between tenths and quarter-hour rounding, deduct lunch breaks, and process whole timesheets at once. We built Timedecimal because the existing tools force you to do those steps in a spreadsheet anyway.
Who built this
The site is run and edited by Emma Carter, a Workforce Productivity Specialist who’s spent five-plus years working on payroll calculations, employee time tracking, and work-hour optimization tools. Every formula on this site is written and reviewed by Emma personally — we don’t publish AI-generated content without an editor in the loop.
What we believe about software
We think free tools should respect the people using them. Timedecimal is built around three principles:
- Privacy by default. Your inputs never leave your browser. There’s no account, no login, no saved server-side history.
- Speed first. The calculator loads in under two seconds and is interactive immediately. No tab to click into, no popup before you see the input field.
- Mobile-friendly. Most payroll questions get asked from a phone — usually because someone’s arguing about a paycheck. The site is designed mobile-first, with 48-pixel touch targets and high-contrast text.
How we make money
The site shows non-intrusive Google AdSense advertisements on tool and article pages (never on legal pages, and never inside the calculator itself). That’s our only revenue source. We don’t sell user data, we don’t run affiliate trackers, and the calculator works identically whether the ads load or not.

What’s next
Timedecimal will stay focused on time-to-decimal conversion and adjacent payroll tools. We’re working on a multi-week pay-period mode and an importer for ADP and Gusto exports. If you’d like to help test, drop us a line.
